Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, born April 26, 1991 often referred to professionally as Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and was the first female to sign to J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. Dreamville Records released her debut EP, Pho, in October 2016, and she was able to gain recognition. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. It was released in May 2019. Ari Lennox released her songs online in 2012 when she released the Five Finger Discount mixtape and Ariography EP in 2013. In 2014, Ari Lennox dropped her own single Bound along with the mixtape she self-released, Five Finger Discount. In 2015, she was featured on Omen's Elephant Eyes Album on Sweat it out on July 21st. J. Cole was interested by her talent and was looking to work together with Rihanna. On December 8 it was announced that she was officially signed by Dreamville Records. Backseat was the result of her participation to the Revenge of the Dreamers II album. In October 21st, 2016 the debut EP of Ari Lennox was released under the name Pho. Ari Lennox performed the song Change by J. Cole as well as opening The 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017 in which she was supported by EarthGang. The year 2018 saw Ari Lennox guested on two tracks with EarthGang and EarthGang, on Nothing but the Best, and Bas On Icarus. On July 16 2018 Ari Lennox released the first single, Whipped Cream from her debut album Shea Butter Baby with an accompanying music video that was released on September 5. On the 9th of November 2018 the singer released two more singles, titled 40 Shades of Choke (and Grampa). In November 13, she dropped two singles titled The No One and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby was released in her debut single the 26th of February, 2019, for the album Creed II. Shea Butter Baby performed with Cole on The Creed II sound track on the 16th of November. The song, made available with a video on YouTube on February 20, 2019, was watched more than three million times over the first 7 days. In support of the track she performed with 6LACK during December 2018 on the From East Atlanta With Love Tour.
